The Diocese of Upper South Carolina was created in 1922 when the Diocese of South Carolina was divided. Grace Episcopal Church is the oldest congregation in the diocese and the only Episcopal Church in Kershaw County. The Diocesan offices are located at Trinity Cathedral in Columbia, SC, some 30 miles west of Camden.

The Diocese encompasses the midlands and upstate areas of South Carolina and contains approximately 65 separate churches. The Bishop is the Rt. Rev. Dorsey F. Henderson.

Below are some of the Diocesan Activities that Grace Episcopal Church participates in.

Camp Gravatt

Camp Gravatt is the diocesan summer children's camp located near Aiken, SC. It offers summer camp sessions for boys and girls who are rising 2nd graders through rising 9th graders. There is also a Senior Hight Retreat Experience for rising 10th graders through college freshmen. Camp Gravatt has always been a favorite place for the youth of the parish and the community to attend or work as staff members. Scholarship funds are available.

Cursillo

Cursillo, true to its purpose, continues to inspire and enable our parishioners to repsond to God's call to ministry and leadership. In addition to sending new candidates to the three-day renewal weekends, veteran Cursillistas from our parish regularly serve on staff. Grace Episcopal Church hosts the Camden Ecumenical Ultreya monthly and the Midlands Convocation Ultreya annually.

The Happening Experience

The Happening Experience is a powerful weekend of renewal held at Camp Gravatt for youth in grades 10 through 12. Its aim is to concentrate closely on the Person and teachings of Jesus Christ. Happening gives those who attend the desire to understand and serve the Church. The yuoth share with one another through talks, discussions, prayer, worship, and play, the importance of love and life in the Lord. Throughout the years, Grace Church has had many parishioners participate in Happening weekends both as candidates and staff.
