Children & Youth

Grace Church provides a nursery for families who have very young children, age’s birth to four, and who would like to utilize this ministry during the 10:30 a.m.worship service. In addition, nursery staff is available for child care during special events as well as on the Rectory Square playground during the Blue Grass Mass.

Both members of the nursery staff have a true love for young children and one of them has a background in early childhood education. These women have received Safe Church training and certification, and are dedicated to providing loving care to the children in their charge. Appropriate sanitary procedures are maintained. Children engage in play activities, have story times, and are offered a snack. The crib meets Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines.

Children & Youth Sunday School
Youth of all ages are welcome at Grace Church. We currently provide Sunday School from mid-September through May for ages 3-18. For our youngest we use the Godly Play curriculum, an interactive storytelling of the Bible stories. Our elementary youth are following Route 66, an energetic trip through the 66 books of the Bible. Our older classes incorporate current events, lessons from the Bible and topics brought up by the classroom.

Children’s Choir
The Children’s choir meets on Wednesday afternoons from 5 – 6 p.m. and sings for seasonal and special services throughout the church year such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Easter, Youth Sunday, and for the Bishop’s visit.

Confirmation Classes
Grace Church assists in a youth’s journey toward confirmation, which begins in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina at the age of 16. There is a period of instruction before this step is taken in order to explore and clarify the beliefs of the church to the candidates. At a specially designated service, the candidates then declare their commitment to these beliefs, and are welcomed into the community by the “laying on of hands” by the bishop. It is for many a very moving experience as an entry into full participation in the life of the church.

Episcopal Youth Community (EYC)
At Grace Church youth are the future of the Church, and youth are the Church of today! Through work projects, retreats, and conventions, youth in grades 6th-12th are experiencing youth ministry. In their hometowns, and throughout the state, young people are carrying out the work of the Church, living in Christian community, and enjoying the fellowship that is a defining component of effective youth ministry. Vacation Bible School
Every summer Grace Church offers Vacation Bible School (VBS) for children ages 4 through 6th grade. The goal of Bible school is to offer a meaningful Christian experience to young people. Each year we have a different theme for Bible school such as “High Sea Expedition.”  At Vacation Bible School the children hear the word of God taught through opening preaching time and classroom teaching. They also enjoy craft time, where they work on a craft throughout the week, and enjoy theme-related snacks. The theme for this year’s VBS  was Surf Shack.
